Program Coordinator Mike Lemons

The Digital Streaming and Broadcast Media program prepares students to create, produce, and distribute audio and video content across today’s most powerful platforms-radio, television, podcasts, and online media. Students train in state-of-the-art studios equipped for professional audio and video production, podcasting, and digital editing, while developing the communication skills demanded by modern mass media.

Through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experiences, students gain real-world proficiency using industry-standard equipment and software. This practical approach prepares graduates for entry-level careers in broadcasting, content creation, digital media, and communications.

The demand for skilled content creators continues to grow well beyond traditional media. Businesses and organizations across every industry now rely on audio and video storytelling to connect with customers and stakeholders. Podcasting has transformed how brands and individuals communicate, offering authentic and engaging connections unmatched by other marketing channels. With the podcasting industry projected to reach $95 billion by 2028, opportunities for trained professionals are expanding rapidly.

The L&C Digital Streaming and Broadcast Media program delivers the experience employers want. From day one through graduation, students train in the campus radio station, gaining hands-on experience in a working broadcast environment. Students become staff members, taking on real responsibilities similar to those found at a commercial station. You’ll learn by doing-serving as an announcer, newscaster, copywriter, producer, or manager-while mastering professional techniques that build confidence, creativity, and leadership.

Beyond work at WLCA, students may participate in a 16-week internship with St. Louis-area radio and television stations, audio/video production companies, and businesses seeking skilled creators for content development and social media marketing campaigns.

Career preparation doesn’t stop at graduation. The Program Coordinator actively supports students in securing their first professional role. Graduates leave with polished online portfolios shared with hundreds of broadcasters and media professionals throughout the Midwest and across the country-helping launch careers in a fast-moving, creative industry.
